To discourage young people from grilling their first cigarette, a crudely drawn man and a cigarette can speak louder than a shiadé awareness campaign. The buzz encountered by the video of the Dutch association Be aware tends to suggest it. Published on the Facebook page, the experiment carried out by the collective shows the toxicity of cigarettes on the lungs via a process that is more fun than scientific. A woman member of the association uses a pump to smoke a paper figure. A cotton filter has been placed beforehand in a small box supposed to act as lungs. Once the cigarette has been consumed and smoked by the paper guinea pig, the result is clear: the cotton is strongly blackened.
An educational video
Video for educational purposes is basically a model intended to be presented to a young audience in order to raise awareness of health hazards of tobacco. It was originally “to show children what happens when we smoke a cigarette. Usually we demonstrate in kindergartens, but last week we didn’t have time. to go outside with the class so we decided to film the process “, explains Pien Witteveen, the director of Stichting Be Aware, interviewed by the Huffington Post. If it could not be used for scientific work, it has the merit of being understandable by all. The success of the video on Facebook proves that it has achieved its purpose: it has reached a large audience.
