Long reserved for science fiction, digital medicine, also called “e-health” could very soon see the light of day. In any case, this is what the French want: more than three quarters of them say they are ready to take the plunge, according to the BVA – Syntec Numérique barometer, made public on October 17.
Thus, 75% of the people questioned are in favor of regular exchanges by e-mail or SMS with their attending physician for problems that do not require consultation. They are even more (83%) to wish to be able to contact the care team in charge of the follow-up of a chronic disease.
The DMP seduces
Launched in January 2011, the DMP (personal medical record) initially aroused a certain skepticism among healthcare professionals and users alike. There is now unanimity among the latter: 85% of them are in favor of this electronic file.
Almost all respondents (92%) would even like to feed their DMP themselves and nearly two thirds (62%) would agree to add their exams and various consultations. One in four people (23%) would however restrict themselves to including their least sensitive medical data, such as medical history.
Allowing us to review all of the patient’s past and medical news, the DMP has come a long way since its timid arrival. Today, nearly 400,000 French people have requested the opening of their DMP, thus facilitating the sharing of information between the healthcare professionals who follow them.
How to proceed ?
If you are a beneficiary of health insurance, you can request its creation free of charge at the reception of a health establishment or during a medical consultation (provided that the doctor has the appropriate IT tools). An explanatory brochure will then be given to you.
This being done, all you have to do is connect to your DMP (at this address) from internet access with your confidential codes. The consultation then gives you access to all the actions performed on your DMP:
- your hospital and radiological reports,
- your results of biology analyzes,
- your history and allergies,
- important acts performed,
- medicines that have been prescribed and dispensed to you.
At any time, you can delete some of the documents it contains, or hide certain information.
