Generalization of early prenatal maintenance, increase in the means of maternity wards and PMI, emergency reception with maternal assistance… The announcements of Adrien Taquet, Secretary of State for Children and Families, go in the direction perinatal studies and early childhood associations.
“Parents feel quite alone”
Adrien Taquet wants to strengthen the support provided to young parents, during and after pregnancy. “Parents feel quite alone, before and especially after childbirth. The idea is to accompany them during the first 1000 days”, he explains to Sunday newspaper.
Home support for families during pregnancy can notably reduce the risk of prematurity and low baby weight by 50%, as demonstrated by a study conducted in the Hauts-de-Seine department. “The relevance of the intervention of the social and family intervention technicians (TISF) is demonstrated by the correlation which exists between the presence of TISF in antenatal period in the family and the observed significant decrease in prematurity. A study carried out in the Paris region with several TISF services and the 92 Nord perinatal health network has demonstrated this for more than six years, reports François Edouard, vice-president of the National Federation of family aids. There is a decrease in the rate of prematurity when the intervention takes place before the multiple birth”, he summarizes.
Prevent parent/baby relationship problems
“The proposals and the general philosophy that emerge from Adrien Taquet’s remarks seem to us to be in perfect harmony with the reflections and activities carried out by the FNAAFP/CSF and the member home help associations which intervene in perinatal care”, add early childhood professionals.
From a health point of view, supporting parents from the 4th month of pregnancy until the child is two years old also makes it possible, according to the FNAAFP/CSF, to prevent parent/baby relationship problems, depression in the postpartumparental exhaustion and atypical child development situations.
