Doctors from the Georges Pompidou hospital met this Friday. They will discuss the circumstances of the suicide of Professor Jean-Louis Megnien.
The Medical Commission of Local Establishment (CMEL) of the Georges Pompidou hospital was due to examine the circumstances of the suicide of Professor Jean-Louis Megnien on Friday. The first part of this meeting will be dedicated to the death of this cardiologist, who emerged from the seventh floor of the establishment on December 17.
The meeting was planned for a long time, as it is the first under the aegis of the new president, Eric Thervet. The latter succeeds Loïc Capron, whom some accuse of not having reacted to the alarms launched in recent years on the psychological state of Professor Megnien.
Pressures
Indeed, testimonies of doctors incriminate the administration and certain colleagues of Professor Megnien, who would have made him live a slow descent into hell. For three years, according to these voices, the cardiologist would have suffered incessant bullying and humiliation, until his dismissal from the service.
Originally, tonight’s CMEL should have started with a minute of silence in tribute to Jean-Louis Megnien. But faced with the pressure of these doctors who accuse the management of harassment and demand a review of the circumstances, the discussion will take place between the sixty members representing the doctors of the establishment.
A commission of inquiry was set up by the AP-HP (Assistance Publique des Hôpitaux de Paris). She should return her results on January 15, the date on which Marisol Touraine “will make decisions”, according to her terms. “This progress report will be an empty shell,” predicts Professor Philippe Halimi, head of the radiology department of the Pompidou hospital, and close to Professor Megnien. To my knowledge, only one doctor has been interviewed to date ”.
