Indeed, under the effect of heat, the cutaneous vessels dilate and the blood is distributed towards the extremities. The heart is then forced to pump more, thus increasing the heart rate by 10 to 15 beats / minute more, even at rest. People with heart failure, the elderly and / or vulnerable and young children can then be particularly vulnerable …
In case of heat stroke, it is imperative to call for help
To avoid heat stroke, the French Federation of Cardiology gives several tips: drink abundantly without necessarily feeling thirsty, avoid going out between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., limit physical efforts, rest regularly, equip rooms with ventilators …
As for people with chronic respiratory and / or cardiovascular diseases, they must continue their treatment and consult a doctor if abnormal symptoms occur.
What are the symptoms of heat stroke? Heat stroke first manifests itself via muscle cramps in the arms, legs, stomach … As it gets worse, it can cause unusual aggressiveness, mental confusion, convulsions and / or loss of awareness. The skin is unusually red, hot, and dry. Headaches, nausea, and intense thirst can also occur.
In the event of heat stroke, it is essential to alert the emergency services (by calling 15): there is a risk of death!
