Sony now really wants to build electric cars
It looks like you’ll be able to order an electric car from Sony in a while. Or you can probably receive an email that you can register, only to wait in suspense, to be told that you didn’t get it and disappointed to continue playing with your old console. uh, car. We mean car. You are looking at the Sony Vision-S 02, the second electrical study model of the electronics brand. With this study model, Sony clearly expresses ambitions to switch to production.
The new Sony Vision-S 02 shares its platform with the Vision-S 01, which was unveiled two years ago. Then the message was that it was a technology carrier, but that Sony was not interested in building its own EV. In the past two years, the brand has changed its mind, as in the spring of this year, a new branch called Sony Mobility Inc. starting. Their job: ‘explore an entry into the EV market’.
Lots of technology
Things like range, battery content and charging speeds are not important for now. The power of the two electric motors is well known: 272 hp. But Sony prefers to talk about the large amount of sensors that keep the car safe on the road, the fast 5G connection and the ability to use Remote Play from the PS5 on the center console. Of course there are good speakers with 3D audio and many screens on the dashboard. By the way, seven of you can take a seat in the Vision-S 02.
Sony electric car price
Sony’s EV ambitions are still too early to actually talk about prices. In terms of dimensions, the Vision-S 02 is somewhat difficult to place. The wheelbase is longer than that of a Tesla Model X, but the overall length is smaller again. It is also not known when Sony’s first electric car should appear. The brand is currently testing the Vision-S 01 on public roads.
