Whether you smoke two packs a day or just a few cigarettes, personalized medical follow-up, in hospital or in a doctor’s office, is possible. A tobacco specialist accompanies you and reassures you in your approach in order to maintain your motivation over time. At the hospital, you will also meet other health professionals (nurse, psychologist) who have followed specific training (diploma in tobacco science).
Above all, the tobacco specialist needs to know your life as a smoker: how many cigarettes do you smoke? In which circumstances ? Do you live around other smokers? Are you doing a stressful job? He must know your state of health and the possible presence of other addictions (alcohol, drugs, drugs) to ensure your care. Tests evaluating your dependence and your mental state are carried out. We also measure the level of carbon monoxide in your breath. Personalized treatment (nicotine substitutes, drugs, behavioral therapy) is then put in place.
At a minimum, the tobacco specialist will meet with you twice. The first visit lasts at least half an hour. A follow-up consultation will see where you are: have you quit smoking? What are your difficulties? And possibly adjust the treatment.
The tobacco specialist can then see you again to maintain your motivation.
