The 22nd edition of Sidaction ended on a positive note: pledges total just over 4 million euros.
The fight against AIDS is still mobilizing. After a sharp drop in donations recorded in 2015, the 22e edition which ended Friday evening delivered its verdict: more than 4.21 million euros were collected by the association at the end of the weekend, a stable figure compared to the previous year. Youtubers have played an important role in maintaining the level of donations, said François Dupré, CEO of Sidaction.
“Our messages to raise awareness among young people have been widely relayed,” he said. We are pleased to note the commitment of a new generation of ambassadors alongside artists and the media to make young people aware of the importance of prevention in the fight against AIDS. “
As every year, the media mobilized for three days to encourage donations by calling 110. But all the players in this charitable event were worried about a further decline following the results of an Ifop poll whose results came out last week. They showed the lack of knowledge of young people about the disease.
AIDS is less scary
“AIDS is no longer considered as it should be, regretted Pierre Bergé and Line Renaud before Sidaction, respectively president and vice-president of Sidaction. We must combat this state of affairs, otherwise all the progress made over the past twenty years, many and hard-won, will have been useless. “
This year again, more than 6,000 people were diagnosed with HIV in France. The disease, which was fatal not long ago, is treatable today. Some nevertheless tend to forget it: it becomes a chronic disease, and is accompanied by a set of constraints at the medical level, but also social. This year, Sidaction recalls them in its campaign clips: “With AIDS, life is much more complicated”.
It is always possible to make a donation until April 15. All you have to do is go to the Sidaction page or call 110.
