Like every year, Sidaction, this fundraiser which takes place on March 24, 25 and 26, is an opportunity to raise awareness and inform about struggle against AIDS. And in this regard, everything remains to be done in view of the results of a Ifop / Bilendi * survey for Sidaction. The opinion poll reveals the extent of the misconceptions and misconceptions that persist around HIV.
Regarding misconceptions first, one in three French people have partial and / or erroneous representations of the modes of transmission of the disease. 16% of French people still think that the use of an intimate toiletry product is effective in preventing the transmission of the AIDS virus. Worse, despite awareness about wearing a condom, more than a quarter of those polled remain convinced that the risk of contaminationexists even during protected intercourse.
71% of French people say they are afraid of AIDS, and in particular 80% of young people (compared to 76% in 2016).
Gaps in HIV testing
What about screening methods? Here too, the French report shortcomings. For example, only one in two people know that there is now a AIDS self-testsold in pharmacies. As for screening, 42% of French people believe they are poorly informed about where to go to get tested in order to know their HIV status (same% for 15-24 year olds). 57% also say they are poorly informed about the existence of emergency treatment if they have taken a risk.
Globally, 36.7 million people are living with HIV. Among them, 17.1 million people do not know they are HIV positive.
