Psychological disorders or professional exhaustion are among the reasons for sick leave most often cited by employees.
- The unions denounce the increasingly harmful stress at work (causing burnout, depression, etc.)
- According to INSEE, long periods of illness can lead to long-term unemployment and inactivity
While during the Covid-19 pandemic, sick leave prescriptions remained below 40%, they started to rise again in 2022.
It is indeed 42% of employees who have obtained sick leave this year, according to a annual study of the social protection group Malakoff Humanis published this Thursday, September 8. This rate returns to the 2016 level (41%) after a significant drop during the Covid period (36% in 2020 and 38% in 2021).
Over-representation of young people and women
Sickness absenteeism is characterized in 2022 by an over-representation of young people, women, managers and single-parent families. 46% of stoppages concern people aged 18-34, while people over 50 are under-represented (34% of the total). Women are also arrested more than men, with a widening gap, going from 6 points in 2016 to 11 points in 2022.
Psychological disorders
And, while the reasons for stopping had changed little since 2016, psychological disorders will become the second cause of sick leave in 2022, after ordinary illnesses such as colds, angina, flu…
The regular increase in long stops and multiple stops is also confirmed this year.
In addition, psychological disorders are the main reason for long stoppages: 28% in 2022 compared to 14% in 2016, taking precedence over accidents.
