The Biomedicine Agency, in collaboration with donation centers and associations, is launching an information and recruitment campaign on sperm donation. The lack is real and we have counted the alarming reports on the decline in the number of spermatozoa in men.
To support all couples suffering from medical infertility and awaiting a donation, the Biomedicine Agency estimates that a total of 300 sperm donations would be needed each year.
If the number of donors is increasing – in 2015, 255 men donated sperm (+ 7% vs 2014), allowing 971 children to be born, it remains difficult to meet all the needs and waiting times are sometimes still too long to benefit from a sperm donation.
This is why from November 2 to 26, the Biomedicine Agency, in collaboration with donation centers and associations, is launching a new national campaign for information and recruitment of potential donors with the broadcast of three spots on national radios, a series of 10 chronicles on regional radios, animated banners on the Internet and two animated films shown, for the first time, in trailers in cinemas throughout France.

A drop in quality that is also worrying
In 25 years, a drop of 40% would have been observed, aggravated by a drop in quality. These are the results of a very serious French study. Some researchers make it a problem as important as that of the warming of our planet.
Among the causes mentioned: first, pollution? we are surrounded by chemicals on a daily basis. Recently, a French team demonstrated the toxicity of phthalates on the germ cells which constitute the precursor of spermatozoa. However, phthalates are found, among other things, in many plastic packaging, in PVC, etc.
Pesticides also contribute to the spoilage of semen.
We also mentioned heat, because the production of sperm is an extremely sensitive to temperature. The sperm should be kept at a temperature between 33-34 ° C. Depending on the temperature, the scholarships contract or relax in order to keep this temperature constant.
An increase in the temperature of the testes slows down or even stops spermatogenesis. And it is from this observation that we accused the jeans too tight.
Food is also in the crosshairs, as is tobacco, which is arguably the main cause. Smoking will destroy the blood vessels in the male reproductive system. At the level of the penis, this is responsible for an alteration in the quality and duration of the erection. In the testes, vascular alterations lead to a more or less irreversible destruction of the production of sperm. We must also add alcohol, but we will also hurt Sunday sportsmen: the traumas caused by cycling and horse riding, as well as the increase in local heat and hampering the circulation of blood threaten the semen quality.
And to finish the stress, of which our modern world is accustomed, but there, it would still be necessary to show us that our modern life is more stressful than those contemporary of the wars and the famines.
