Beaten by the Peugeot 208 on the new market, the Renault Clio takes its revenge in occasion, passing 210,419 copies in the first half of 2021. It even completely crushes its opponent, who ranks only in sixth place with 78,526 registrations.
But the two rivals are not fighting on equal terms. While the little one at the Losange is in its fifth renewal, its competitor at the Lion only welcomed its second generation in 2019. Before it, there were the 206 and 207, which still record tens of thousands of transactions. . The second-hand market thus shows a rather different face from that of new, as evidenced by 2e place for the Citroën C3, not really used to being so high on the podium. Or, conversely, the modest 23e position of the Dacia Sandero, far from the score achieved in nine.

The Golf and the Mégane in front of the 308
Same causes and same effects in compact sedans. While the first buyers have preferred the Peugeot 308 for a long time, the Renault Megane remains unbeatable in second, third or fourth hand. The gap between the two is, however, becoming narrower and narrower. But they both remain clearly dominated by the Volkswagen Golf, which benefits from its extended career, which began in 1974, and its countless variants to count nearly 88,000 registrations! This German is thus third in all categories, as in 2020. As for the Renault Twingo, it remains without competition among mini-city cars, with its 79,628 copies. Its closest opponent here is the Fiat 500, which has half the number of owner exchanges, while the Citroën C1, Peugeot 107 and 108 or Toyota Aygo do not even reach the top 30.

SUVs still at the gates of the top 10
As for SUVs, the first of them, the Peugeot 3008, is only at 11e rank. He was a short head ahead of his little brother in the 2008, and the Renault Captur. Conversely, families with a tight budget have not given up on minivans, while this category is endangered in nine. The Scénic, with its four generations and its 25-year career, even manages to climb to a pretty ninth place. On the other hand, there are neither Renault Laguna or Talisman, nor Citroën C5, nor Peugeot 406, 407 or 508 among the top 30. The only family cars that manage to integrate this ranking are German and premium: these are BMW 3 Series and Mercedes Classe C, well helped by the age of their name and their multiple variations.
