The Gillot cheese dairy, located in Saint-Hilaire de Briouze in the Orne region, recalls several batches of raw milk camemberts and coulommiers following the report of contamination by salmonella.
As the name suggests, these bacteria cause salmonellosis, a potentially serious infectious disease. This manifests as gastroenteritis, accompanied by fever, headache, feverishness, digestive disturbances and loss of appetite. These symptoms, which appear 48 hours after infection, can be aggravated in young children, immunocompromised people and the elderly.
While all of the affected products were withdrawn from sale, some cheeses may have been purchased before security measures were taken. The Auchan brand, which distributes the cheeses concerned, therefore calls on consumers not to eat them and to destroy them or bring them back to request a refund.
The products indicated are as follows: Camembert with raw milk 250 g (brands: Bertrand Crémier; Bertrand Village; Petit Normand, Vache Pâture, DLUO: 05/26/15, batch number: 085 511); Small Camembert with raw milk 150 g (brands: Gillot Noir BBD: 05/28/15, batch number: 085 511) and coulommiers with raw milk 350g (brands: Gillot Noir; Pâturage. BBD: 05/30/15, number batch: 085 511).
People who have consumed the products mentioned above are strongly advised to consult their doctor and report this risk of salmonellosis. Because if this infectious disease can disappear on its own, it sometimes requires treatment with antibiotics to be totally eradicated. The patient must also be isolated as far as possible to avoid transmission to those around him, through the meals he prepares (secondary contamination).
