Second round of tests for the new electric Renault Mégane. After testing the pre-series models, the final version is ready. While waiting for our impressions at the wheel, here is what you need to know about this competitor to the Volkswagen ID.3.
Renault’s range of electric vehicles is enriched with a third model. After its Twingo E-Tech and Zoé city cars, the French manufacturer is gaining a foothold in the compact model segment. Its new Mégane E-Tech takes up the well-known name of the petrol and hybrid sedan, but without immediately replacing it. It also displays a short size (length of 4.21 m) and a crossover look that brings it closer to the Captur. But it is its design entirely focused on electrification that makes it special.
Two batteries for the Mégane E-Tech
The Mégane E-Tech is built on a new platform called CMF-EV dedicated 100% to electric propulsion. This is an advantage for energy efficiency and it leaves more freedom in terms of layouts. The electric motor offers two power levels (130 and 220 hp) and the battery, two capacities (40 and 60 kWh). Autonomy is between 300 and 450 km depending on the versions (combined WLTP values). Renault complicates the range with four charging systems, which can be chosen according to the finishes: Standard (7 kW AC), Boost (7 kW AC and 85 kW DC), Super (7 and 130 kW) and Optimum (22 and 130 kW).
Starting price at €35,200 before bonuses
Orders for the Mégane E-Tech are open from this month of February 2022 at the access price of €35,200. But this basic version with 130 hp motor, 40 kWh battery and 300 km autonomy is not recommended in the absence of a high capacity charger (standard system at 7 kW in alternating current only). The real price will be around €40,000 for an EV40 130 hp Boost Charge version in Techno finish. The rates are high, as for all electric vehicles, but the ecological bonus comes to lighten the bill a little. Remember that this is €6,000 for models under €45,000 until June 30 (€5,000 beyond).
Price in euros | Balance | tech | Iconic |
EV40 130 hp Standard Charge | 35,200 | 38,200 | 40,900 |

The three trim levels of the electric Mégane (Équilibre, Techno and Iconic) are well equipped, and the intermediate level will prove more than enough to have the comfort and technology of the Mégane E-Tech. On this last point, note that the newcomer is the first Renault to receive the Google operating system for its multimedia interface, called here OpenR. This allows you to find the ergonomics of an Android smartphone on the 12-inch touch screen of the car. Find our publications on the electric Mégane E-Tech:
