Men who ejaculate more than twenty times a month are less likely to develop prostate cancer.
When it comes to ejaculation, don’t have a quick hand. A new study confirms the importance that repeated male orgasm can have on men’s health. In particular, frequent ejaculating – and this at any age of sex life – seems to have a protective effect against prostate cancer.
This observation, already established in previous work, is the subject of a large-scale study, carried out on nearly 32,000 men and published in the scientific journal European Urology. The subjects were followed for 18 years, during which 3800 participants developed prostate cancer.
However, according to the observations of researchers, a frequency of 21 ejaculations per month is associated with a considerable reduction in the risk of developing this pathology. Thus, for a man aged 20 to 29 who maintains this performance, the reduction is of the order of 19% (22% for those 40-49 years old).
“Frustration theory”
If the causal effect is not demonstrated in this work, it remains closely linked to the “famous and ancient theory of frustration”, explains François Desgrandchamps, head of the urology department at Saint-Louis hospital in Paris. This theory is indeed based on the carcinogenic nature of the prostatic fluid, which must be evacuated as much as possible, so as not to allow it to alter the prostate.
“In fact, there are carcinogenic substances in semen – all polyamines, putrescine, spermidine, spermine…, specifies François Desgrandchamps. Naturally, we thought that if these substances were found in high concentrations in the prostate, they could become carcinogenic. “
François Desgrandchamps, head of the urology department in Saint-Louis: “ Science could not establish that large ejaculators were protected because American studies were very prudent, they placed the threshold at 4 ejaculations per month. “
“Often, but neatly”
To this day, the theory remains scientifically unverifiable – one should conduct prospective studies and ask one group of men to ejaculate four times a month, while the other should engage in sustained activity, up to 20 times a month. monthly issues. Which, in practice, is not easy to set up.
However, this epidemiological work does seem to confirm the theory of frustration. “The proof of the concept is already well known, it is not only a question of statistical relation”, adds the Parisian urologist.
Already in May 2015, Havard Medical School recommended that men have daily ejaculation from the age of 40 to prevent prostate cancer. The advantage of having multiple partners has thus been highlighted on several occasions.
With a downside, however: STIs (sexually transmitted infections) multiplying the risk factor for cancer, it is better to accompany his frenzy of great caution regarding the means of protection – outside the framework of masturbation, at least. A little joke from the urology community sums up the situation well: “You have to ejaculate often, but cleanly!” “
