The fight against malaria progress on several fronts. On the one hand, researchers have succeeded in hereditarily immunizing female mosquitoes against the parasite of the disease, reveals the magazine Science.
On the other hand, the Ministers of Health of six African countries have adopted a plan to eradicate this disease which killed 660,000 people in the world in 2010, mainly children.
Accelerate the fight
The information was broadcast by the Panapress news agency, which was on site during the meeting in Mauritania. This meeting “was part of an initiative aimed at accelerating the fight against malaria with a view to achieving the Millennium Development Goals”, explains the agency.
The ministers took advantage of this announcement to request assistance in implementing this plan from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Roll Back Malaria Initiative.
