Lubricate, lubricate, lubricate
Unfortunately, we all have to deal with skin aging. The skin slackens, wrinkles appear and it often becomes drier. Good skin care is therefore indispensable to counter the ravages of time.
Anyone who has started taking care of the skin at an early age will enjoy it a lot later in life. But luckily it’s never too late to start greasing. It is important to do this with the right products; in other words: a skin care product that is tailored to your skin.
Cell division is slower
As the skin ages, cell division slows down. Older skin takes twice as long to replace a cell on the skin’s surface as younger skin. As a result, the skin can look dull and sallow.
Skin aging is a process of aging and sagging of the skin. This is caused by the following processes:
- The epidermis (epidermis) becomes thinner and thinner.
- The dermis (dermis) changes:
– reduction in the number of blood vessels in the skin;
– reduction of connective tissue (collagen) and elastin fibres;
– reduction in the number of sebaceous glands and decrease in the function of the sebaceous glands.
Due to the reduction and fragmentation of the elastin fibers, the skin loses its elasticity. The aging skin then develops wrinkles. The reduction and decrease in the functioning of the sebaceous glands causes dry skin.
Faster aging
In addition to the dangers for skin cancer, smoking and sunlight also cause faster aging of the skin. UV radiation in sunlight damages connective tissue and elastin fibres.
Frequent exposure to sunlight causes faster breakdown of elastin in the skin. This entails earlier and more extensive wrinkle formation. Another cause of faster skin aging is smoking. Smoking can break down elastin and connective tissue and cause wrinkles to form earlier.
Slow down aging process
-
Be careful with sun exposure. Use good sunscreen and protective clothing in the summer.
- Take care of the skin with protective creams.
- Drink plenty of water (minimum 1.5 liters per day).
- Eat healthy (lots of vegetables for the antioxidants).
- Avoid stress (and worry wrinkles).
- Do not smoke.
Therapy
Aging is a natural process and cannot be stopped. The effects of skin aging can be made less visible by addressing the appearance of skin aging by:
- Camouflage with makeup.
- Peeling of the skin.
- Cosmetic surgery (e.g. facelift, eye lift).
- Laser treatment (CO2 laser, pulsed dye laser).
