This Friday, August 24, more than 80 people, including 33 children, were poisoned in a campsite in Balazuc, near Vallon-Pont-d’Arc in the south of the Ardèche, according to information communicated by the firefighters to the AFP.
If the cases of intoxication are not serious, two adolescents of 10 and 16 years were transported “as a precaution” to the Aubenas hospital center because they presented “signs of dehydration”, according to information from the Dauphiné Liberated confirmed by firefighters. “Seven or eight” other campers made their own way to the hospital.
Water quality in question
At around 11 a.m., the firefighters went to the Beaume Giraud campsite because around thirty holidaymakers were suffering from vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, stomach aches, fever or fatigue. They finally identified 81 sick people. According to the first elements of the investigation, the quality of the water is responsible for these poisonings.
Samples were taken by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) in order to carry out analyzes. The results will not be known until Monday. Le Dauphiné Libéré reminds that the campsite remains open while awaiting the results, but that all water supplies as well as the swimming pool were closed this Friday afternoon. Bottles of water were distributed to campers.
