What is it?
Pinterest can actually be compared to the bulletin board in your kitchen, where you store nice photos, inspiring quotes, recipes and much more – but online. Pinterest allows you to create your own collection of photos you like, it’s called a board. Such a board is actually a kind of folder, in which you can keep all kinds of photos in one place. You can give the board a name yourself, as we do for example with ‘Plus – Gardening‘ or ‘Plus – Cycling‘. You can create as many boards as you want, and you can arrange them by theme just like us. You can follow the boards of other users, and they can do the same with you. But if you prefer to keep your collection to yourself, you can set the sign to ‘private’ so that you can only see it yourself.
How do I use it?
Pinterest is a free platform. You can download the app on your phone via App Store or Google Play Store, but it can also be used via a laptop or PC. Then you have to create an account with your email address, because you can’t use Pinterest without an account. Pinterest asks about your interests so it knows what images you’re looking for. Each image is called a pin. With a button that looks like a pin, you can place photos that you want to keep on one of your plates. For each board you indicate whether you want this board to be seen by everyone, or whether it is only intended for you. You can create boards with photos of others that you find on the platform, or you can upload photos yourself.

- Download Pinterest from App Store or Google Play Store.
- Open the app and create an account at ‘Register’
- Enter your details (such as gender and country)
- Then choose five or more topics that interest you
- On the ‘For You’ page now, Pinterest will show photo suggestions based on your interests (and later based on photos and categories you view often). For example, if you often look at recipes, you will also see them more often on the ‘For You page’.
- To search for Pinterest users or Pins on specific topics, go to ‘Search’ at the bottom of the screen
- Type in a term you are looking for, for example Plus Magazine
- Suggestions appear at the top of the screen. Clicking on that will take you to a page with related pins. At the bottom of the screen you will see accounts related to your search term, such as Plus Magazine
- If you click on ‘Plus Magazine’ and scroll down you can see the Pins of Plus Magazine
- Click on a Pin to save it
- Click on ‘Save’
- Click on ‘Create board’
- Name your board and set its visibility (private or public)
- Click on ‘Create’
- At ‘Saved’ at the bottom right of the screen you can see all your boards and saved Pins
- This way you can make a lot of plates from all kinds of fun and inspiring photos
