In Bordeaux, the parents of students are concerned. In school canteens, the plates plastic, considered “lighter, less noisy and unbreakable” by the town hall, have replaced the traditional tempered glass plates. A decision that does not convince some families: they worry about the consequences of this change on the health of their children. Parents of students have therefore created the Collective canteen without plastic before asking for analyzes to assess the harmfulness of these dishes.
Analyzes deemed partial
It is now done and Alain Juppé, mayor of Bordeaux, made the results public. They “demonstrate that, despite the alterations due to use, this tableware retains its initial capacities without elements likely to harm the health of users”, we can read in a report. communicated. These conclusions do not reassure the parents of pupils, however: they consider that these analyzes are not complete. “We were not heard on the list of molecules to look for. There were 3 major components: chemical, biological with endocrine disruptors and microbiological (…) In fact, the analyzes are partial, a section on microbes is missing and biological research is not complete “, highlighted Sophie Moussa, member of the collective and pharmacist, on France 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Another problem: analyzes show that plastic plates contain bisphenol A, an endocrine disruptor prohibited in France since January 2015. If the laboratory specifies that the presence of this chemical component “is below the limit set by the EU regulation”, the parents of students do not intend to stop there. and await explanations from the town hall.
