6,000 young pharmacists responded to a questionnaire sent by the Order of Pharmacists. The profile of a motivated generation emerges, which does not hesitate to settle in the countryside.
Young pharmacists are motivated, familiar with new technologies and very concerned about ethical rules. This is the portrait that emerges from the first responses to the questionnaire sent by the Order of Pharmacists to 20,000 pharmacies under 35, as well as to 5th and 6th year students. 6,000 of them have already responded.
No pharmacist dynasty
The survey makes it possible to refute some received ideas. “It is false and archival to think that there are dynasties of pharmacists”, insists Isabelle Adenot, the president of the Order. The studies are considered financially accessible. And both women and men are very attached to the possibility of a liberal exercise. Another surprise, the young people do not refuse to settle in the countryside. “On the contrary, they rather flee Paris and the Paris region”, specifies Isabelle Adenot.
The young graduates judge that the level of training is good from a scientific point of view, but they deplore deficits in human sciences, including management or in the field of quality assurance.
Soon 10,000 retirements
In a difficult economic context, the Order is worried about the decline in enrollment for the 1time years and disaffection during studies. The stoppage rate after two or three years of operation has, for its part, doubled, from 2 to 4%. However, in the coming years, 10,000 pharmacists will retire. It is therefore important to keep a motivated young generation, and to make the profession attractive.
