The electric 2008 passes the autonomy test on our dedicated route. Driving pleasure at the top, but consumption too high: this electric SUV blows hot and cold.

[Mise à jour le 08/10/2021] The Peugeot 2008 has revised its prices and finishes, and the electric version e-2008 is affected by its changes. Exit the Business finish, replaced by the Pack variant on the Active and Allure versions. Prices are also changing and the range of the e-2008 is now between 36,800 and 42,750 €. A price from which the customer can deduct the ecological bonus of € 6,000 until the end of the year. Bonus which will be reduced to € 5,000 in 2022 for all electric cars under € 45,000 and to € 1,000 beyond this price.

The second generation Peugeot 2008 has gained in versatility with a size increased to 4.30 m and increased roominess. The ideal companion for a small family, it offers two types of engine: thermal versions and an electric version. It is the battery version that interests us here to know its true range. Officially, Peugeot announces 310 km of autonomy for its e-2008, according to the WLTP standard. As we will see, our figures are less optimistic in “real life”, that is to say on our test route which is divided into two segments: a motorway route of 109 km and a road route of 140 km (see infographic below).

Before departure, a tour of the owner is essential. The electric 2008 has the same habitability as the thermal versions because the 50 kWh battery (for 46.2 kWh of useful capacity) slips into the floor). Aesthetically, it differs little. On the outside, it stands out with its “e” logos affixed to the front fenders and its body-colored grille. Inside, it receives a specific biton upholstery. The 2008 prices make you cough : minimum 36,800 € in Active finish and 42,750 € in GT Pack. The ecological bonus of € 6,000 in 2021 slightly softens the bill.
What autonomy on the motorway?

The test conditions are ideal : temperature of 18 °, almost zero wind and good visibility. We connect the e-2008 to our departure terminal with a flow of 50 kW at Croissy-Beaubourg (77), but the latter has problems that morning: we charge only 5% of the battery in 30 minutes … (driving in electric, it is a bit like in “old”: there is often an unforeseen …). Fortunately we had arrived with a 70% charged battery. So we start with 75% energy and we tell ourselves that we are “wide” for only 109 km of highway. The route on the A4 ribbon goes smoothly, apart from a 3 km work zone. The electric 2008 is comfortable, quiet and stable and we set the adaptive cruise control to 132 km / h, which corresponds to 130 km / h on our GPS which serves as a benchmark on all our tests.
Highway route | Departure | Arrival |
Battery level | 75% | 9% |
Autonomy indicated to the computer | 180 km | 14 km |
Mileage traveled | 109 km
Conso. Estimated per 100 km * | 28 kWh
Estimated autonomy * | 165 km |
Values calculated according to the percentage of battery consumed (here 66%) and its useful capacity (46.2 kWh). On arrival, we are not that “wide”:only 14 km of autonomy and 9% battery remain
. The electric 2008 consumed 28 kWh per 100 km and “burned” almost two thirds of its battery in 109 km of motorway. This brings the estimate of its range on this route to only 165 km. The Peugeot achieves one of the worst scores in our range tests, only the Honda e and DS3 E-Tense do worse. Above all, the motorway autonomy is too short to connect two fast charging stations in France, given the state of the network at present. Too bad, because the e-2008 accepts up to 100 kW of charge, which makes it possible to quickly recover autonomy. With him, we will therefore have to learn to travel differently… and leave the highway.

Peugeot e 2008 on charging station The bad surprise comes from the cost of fast recharging on the Ionity 50 kWh terminal in the Vrigny area (51): € 54 for 41 kWh delivered. If we bring this back to the autonomy on the motorway of the e-2008, it corresponds to 54 € for 146 km or even a gasoline car that consumes 28 l / 100 km. At this price, you might as well drive a Lamborghini V12! More seriously, we are touching here on the illegibility of tariffs for recharging an electric vehicle. Each operator sets its price (for the time spent, the kWh delivered, etc.), grants loyalty points or not, or penalizes brands that do not participate in the financing of their network (this is the case of Ionity with French brands ). That same evening, we recharged for free
our e-2008 in a public car park and recovered 32 kWh for only 2 € (the cost of the car park beyond the 3 free hours). In this case, driving electric is financially unbeatable. Illegible we tell you!
What autonomy on the road? Charging after the highway cost us dear, but we left with a 95% charged battery for our road trip (for info, the battery went from 9 to 95% in 1:01 on the 50 kWh terminal

e 2008 Gt electric Advertised at 136 hp, the e-2008 is actually limited to 100 hp in Normal driving mode.
Sufficient power, especially since it is the torque that counts here. To benefit from the maximum power, you must switch to Sport mode. The Peugeot then shows a better tone, but watch out for the batteries. We remained in Normal mode so as not to distort our autonomy test and we sometimes activated Brake mode when entering towns. The latter accentuates the “engine braking” and allows better energy recovery when decelerating. | Route route | Departure |
Arrival | Battery level | 95% |
38% | Autonomy indicated to the computer | 180 km |
120 km | Mileage traveled
140 km | Conso. Estimated per 100 km *
18.8 kWh | Estimated autonomy * |
246 km
Values calculated according to the percentage of battery consumed (here 57%) and its useful capacity (46.2 kWh) After this 140 km course punctuated by portions at 70, 80, 90 and 110 km / h and crossing towns at 50 km / h, consumption is 18.8 kWh per 100 km.
The estimated autonomy is 246 km, far enough from the 310 km of the mixed value of WLTP homologation.
The e-2008 is one of the electric vehicles that consumed the most in this test. Too bad, because it is both practical and fun to drive.
What about the city?
We do not measure range in the city, because it is no longer a problem for electric vehicles: the density of charging stations is higher there than outside the city, the average mileage in the city is low daily and consumption is often low (low speed), except if we consider that each passage of a green light is a Grand Prix start …

Peugeot e-2008 test report
2008 electric
- To consider only its driving pleasure and its careful presentation, the e-2008 is a champion. So, we regret all the more that the Peugeot takes full force the faults of the electric car: high purchase price (+ € 4,800 vs a Puretech 130 EAT8 version with equal finish with bonus taken into account) and radius of too weak action. The Koreans know how to do better in autonomy (Hyundai Kona Electric) and the Chinese – via MG – offer a broken price for a not so ridiculous service (read the MG ZS challenges e2008). The Peugeot cannot even stand out with an integrated GPS which calculates journeys according to the charge of the battery and terminals. This requires going through two MyPeugeot + Free2move applications, the operation of which is irrelevant.
- WE love
- Smoothness of operation and behavior
Space on board and modern presentation
- 100 kW rapid recharge in series (but you have to find the terminals …)
- We regret
- The price, hard to swallow …
Consumption too high
