Google’s anti-shake spoon, designed by the company Lift Labs, is now available on the Internet. Equipped with an electronic handle, it aims to facilitate the daily life of Parkinson’s patients.
A year ago, the American company Lift Labs made people talk about it with its self-stabilizing spoon project to allow people with Parkinson’s disease to eat without spilling everything. Today, the company, bought by the computer giant Google, announces the sale of the product on the market.
Tremors reduced by 75%
Equipped with sensors and mini motors, the handle of the spoon can be repositioned, according to the tremors of its user. Thus, as soon as the sensors detect small involuntary movements, the motors react and readjust the head of the spoon in the opposite direction, appreciably canceling the jerks of the arm.
According to the work of engineers from Lift Labs published in the journal Movement Disorder in October 2013, the device, when turned on, reduced tremors by 75%.
The anti-shake spoon will be available on the Internet for the value of 295 dollars (236 euros) with an additional 40 euros for shipping to Europe.
