Since August 1, the city of Paris has increased the price of hourly on-street parking. According to a new study by the start-up Cocoparks, it is now more advantageous to park in a car park than on the surface. Nearly 8 out of 10 car parks now cost less, right from the start.
In Paris, stop trying to park on the surface! Between the various facilities and the ephemeral terraces, finding parking is now a challenge. And it will be all the more complicated in the years to come since:
- half of the street spaces (around 70,000 spaces) will be eliminated by the end of the term of office in 2026;
- parking spaces for electric vehicles and motorized two-wheelers (which will have to pay for parking from 2022) will be created.
More advantageous parking?
The start-up Cocoparks has just published the new summary of its study on parking prices in the Capital. It emerges that before the 1er August surface parking for short periods (2-3 hours) was less expensive than in a paid park. Since the price increase, it is now more advantageous to park your vehicle in an underground car park. So :
- in zone 1, 98% of car parks are now cheaper than surface parking, from the first hour of parking;
- in zone 2, 60% of car parks are now cheaper than surface parking.
In addition, motorists who saw an interest in not paying for their parking on the street just to pay the post-parking fee will certainly have to review their judgment. Because FPS also saw their prices rise by about 50%. ” Underground car parks are generally underused in Paris. They should therefore be able to absorb part of the postponement induced by these changes. »Says Raphaël Jatteau, founder of Cocoparks.

If parking in an underground car park is financially more interesting, Cocoparks draws the attention of motorists to the fact that prices can be three or four times higher between two parks located only a few streets apart. Here are the price differences observed by the start-up between the cheapest parking and the most expensive parking, in each arrondissement of Paris (hourly rate) in zone 1:
