Pharmacy, drugstore or supermarket
You can buy a box of paracetamol almost everywhere, but that does not apply to heavier painkillers such as ibuprofen, naproxen and diclofenac. Here is where you can buy something: pharmacy, drugstore or supermarket.
You don’t need a prescription for them, but they are not available everywhere in every strength: painkillers such as ibuprofen, naproxen and diclofenac. These heavier painkillers (NSAIDs) can be dangerous, which is why there are rules to restrict their sale. For example, you may only buy a small package, or only a lower dose.
But where can you go for which box of painkillers? The Medicines Evaluation Board has an overview:
Here It states whether a painkiller is for sale at the pharmacy (UA, only pharmacy), or also at the drugstore (UAD, only pharmacy and drugstore) or everywhere (AV, general sale).
For example, people over 60 are advised to consult their GP before using these painkillers. Read more about this in October’s Plus Magazine. And on www.thuisarts.nl/nsaid.
In December, Plus Magazine focuses on prescription painkillers such as morphine, oxycodone and fentanyl.
