Repeatedly postponed, the commercial launch of the new Astra is now scheduled for June. This does not prevent the compact Opel, cousin of the Peugeot 308 and DS 4, from increasing its prices for the second time since the opening of orders.
Buying a new car today requires a good dose of patience and an ever-increasing budget. The delays sometimes accumulate so much that some models have time to see their prices go up several times… even before their career has really started. For the new Astra, the commercial launch is now scheduled for June, while the order books opened last October. But those who were waiting to be able to discover this compact in concessions, before buying, will have to accept a price increase of €700 across the entire range, effective from 1er may. Knowing that two increases of €600 had taken place in January and March, inflation has therefore already reached €1,900! The Astra Sports Tourer station wagon has not yet revealed its prices and is now expected for 2023!
Always well placed against competitors
Starting at €25,050, the Opel compact sedan remains well placed in its category. Especially since the prices of its competitors have not remained fixed either: the aging Renault Mégane 4, for example, has just taken €650 again this month and now starts at €28,800! The close cousin Peugeot 308, built on the same EMP2 V3 base and fitted with the same engines, starts at €25,700. As for the DS 4, which is produced in the same German factory in Rüsselsheim as the Astra, its premium positioning and its choice to skip manual transmissions are synonymous with much higher prices. In the Stellantis group, only the Fiat Tipo Cross and Citroën C4 are still much more affordable, starting at €21,490 and €22,900 respectively. But they must also deal with bases and a less sophisticated multimedia system than the compact Éclair.
