According to a study by the insurer Malakoff Médéric revealed by The Parisian, a quarter of work stoppages prescribed by the doctor are not respected by the patient. This study shows that almost one out of two employees (42%) has been prescribed at least sick leave during the year. But 23% of these stops were not respected by the patients:
15% of them gave up stopping and threw the work stoppage in the trash 8% of patients returned to work prematurely.
“We find the quickest to give up stopping in the hotel and catering sector: 30% of the prescriptions are not respected there” explains in Le Parisien Anne-Sophie Godon, director of studies at Malakoff Médéric. But it is business leaders who are the least inclined to follow the doctor’s instructions since 48% of them do not follow their sick leave.
To obtain these figures, the insurer analyzed data from 2 million of its private sector policyholders and commissioned two surveys of 5,000 employees. This study also shows that the duration of work stoppages keeps getting longeras a sign of health which keeps getting worse. Thus, stoppages of more than 30 days increased by 10% between 2012 and 2016.
