New York State has legalized the use of medical cannabis. It is the 23rd state in the United States to have made this decision. A production center will be set up in the very heart of the city. But the conditions of use will be strict.
This decision was passed by Parliament 18 months ago, and five companies have been chosen to market medical cannabis.
Strict sales conditions
20 dispensaries should gradually open in the State and only people with serious diseases, including cancer, are eligible. Parkinson’s disease, the multiple sclerosis and some forms ofepilepsy. They must be entered in a register by their doctor. Only processed products will be available, mainly pills, oils or drops. Patients will not be able to purchase cannabis to smoke. “Between 0.5% and 1.5% of the population of New York State could be eligible, or between 100,000 and 300,000 people,” according to Nicholas Vita, CEO of Columbia Care, one of the companies selected, interviewed by AFP.
Medicinal cannabis in France
Already authorized in several countries, therapeutic cannabis can now be used in the composition of medicines in France. Indeed, the National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety (ANSM) has given the marketing authorization (AMM) of medicines containing “cannabis and its derivatives”. A therapeutic use of this plant “for certain well-defined patients and according to very supervised procedures. Neither self-cultivation nor artisanal products are authorized, ”the decree clearly specifies.
