Apple today officially starts sales of the new MacBook Air with M2 chip. But is that the version you need?
Today is really the day. The sale of the new MacBook Air with M2 chip has now officially started. It has been possible to order for a week, but from today delivery will take place.
What was that again? The new MacBook Air with the M2 chipset is available in two flavors. Prices for the M2 Air start at 1,519 euros. You get an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 8 GB central memory and 256 GB SSD storage.
The second version consists of an 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 8 GB central memory, 512 GB SSD storage. The price for this model starts at 1,869 euros. Of course it can all be much crazier and more expensive, but this is the basis.
MagSafe charger
What else was new? Well, the iconic wedge shape of the Air is definitely a thing of the past. It has a much improved liquid retina screen, improved camera and the battery lasts all day. And the undersigned is also excited about the return of the MagSafe charger.
But the big question is, of course, is this the MacBook you must have? Yes of course, the newest is the best, right? But there are a few drawbacks. The delivery time for example. Due to the shortage of chips, there is a delivery time. If you order today in the Apple Store, you won’t have it for a month at the earliest. If you order the version with M1 chipset, you can go to the Apple Store today to pick it up.
MacBook with M1 chipset
In addition, the price is a thing. The MacBook Air is Apple’s entry-level model and therefore normally the cheapest laptop in the range. However, that title currently goes to the MacBook Air with M1 chipset.
At the Apple Store it is available from 1,219 euros. If you shop around a bit online, it can be a bit cheaper. That laptop introduced last year is really not a wretch, just a very potent computer that will suffice for many people.
MacBook Pro
You can also consider looking the other way, towards the MacBook Pro. If you want just a little more on your Air with M2 chip (more internal memory, 1TB SSD), you will soon be over 2,000 euros. A 14-inch MacBook Pro can be found in several stores for just over 2,000 euros. Okay, with M1 chip, but in practice it will be faster than the Air. And not unimportant, you have a lot more extra ports on the side.
Of course everyone always wants the latest of the latest. The MacBook Air with M2 chip is the latest of the latest. But is that what you need? So it is worth taking a look around and weighing up carefully. It is quite special that the offer that was already available at Apple is still so good. Definitely worth considering if you want to get started quickly with your new MacBook.
