Tobacconists will once again demonstrate throughout France to mark their opposition to the neutral package which comes into force in 2016.
After demonstrating this weekend in a few regions, tobacconists will make their demands heard this Tuesday in 80 cities. They wish to reaffirm their fierce opposition to the neutral packages that Marisol Touraine wants to impose in France from 2016.
In a press release, the Confederation of tobacconists, they are 26,000 in France, indicates that sit-ins and demonstrations are planned in front of the prefectures.
According to tobacco sellers, this government measure will “disfigure the shelves, degrade the points of sale and increase the distortion of competition, with Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Italy and Spain, who refused to put it in place ”.
Avoid advertising
The Minister of Health announced, for her part, that the measure will be reintroduced into the health bill that senators will examine from September 14.
Cigarette packaging should therefore no longer have a logo as of May 2016. The new packaging of these single-model packs is something to cool off, with shock photos showing black lungs, encysted throats and rotten teeth. They will occupy 65% of the area of the package, compared to 30% currently. Above all, brands will no longer be able to affix their logo or any distinctive sign. As for the typography, it will be standardized, and white, de rigueur for everyone.
As a reminder, hundreds of thousands of people die each year directly or indirectly from tobacco. Among women, mortality has even increased six-fold over the past 30 years. Fortunately, there are many ways to quit smoking, in particular Tabac Info Service, which has just launched its new awareness campaign.
