The ANSM warns about Tercian specialties, based on cyamemazine. The leaflet fails to prevent the risk of intestinal obstruction.
The National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) warns against an error in the instructions for all Tercian specialties. This cyamemazine-based medication is indicated for the treatment of psychotic states, anxiety and severe forms of depression, in combination with an antidepressant.
A update adds important information: the drug can cause, in very rare cases, obstruction or severe inflammation of the intestine, which can lead to necrosis. These possible side effects have not just been discovered, but were not listed on the package leaflet.
Risk of intestinal obstruction
The Sanofi laboratory, manufacturer of Tercian, had itself alerted the ANSM in December 2016 to this oversight in the special warnings. They did not indicate what to do with prolonged constipation, bloating or abdominal pain. This is now the case: it is important to consult a doctor immediately, the updated version.
The incomplete instructions will accompany the boxes currently in circulation for a while. The ANSM estimates that from February, the full updates will gradually replace the old ones on the market.
