Less than a month ago, Netflix announced that the video streaming service is considering adding ads to a particular subscription.
Now it seems that this is going to happen sooner than originally thought. The New York Times writes that this may still happen this year. Earlier, the company’s CEO, Reed Hastings, said he wants to figure this out “within the next two years”.
That was surprising at the time, because Netflix always spoke strongly about adding advertisements to similar platforms. This is not the only point that Netflix returns to, however. While the company previously encouraged consumers to share account information, it now plans to charge an additional fee on top of the chosen subscription for people who do so.
When will Netflix make the changes?
The New York Times further reports that an employee of the video streaming service tells the newspaper that those changes will all take place in the last quarter of 2022.
By the way, this isn’t the only video streaming service considering adding ads to a slightly cheaper plan. Disney+ and HBO Max previously announced the same. So the competition is following in each other’s footsteps.
