The summer period is known to put our ears to the test: festivals, nightclubs, sporting events, not to mention the famous music festival and its multitude of concerts! Audio 2000, hearing health expert, helps us take stock of the right actions to adopt to protect your eardrums.
Above 85 decibels (a hair dryer or a bark) hearing is at risk. Since August 2017, the law sets a 102 decibel threshold, and this, for 15 minutes maximum, in all that is events or musical and sporting places. For children under 6, this limit is set at 94 decibels. The risk, after being exposed to high sound levels for an extended period of time, is to experience wheezing and buzzing (tinnitus) as well as a hearing loss. If so, it is important to stay somewhere quiet, free from noise pollution, or get a long night’s sleep, so that these symptoms go away. In case of persistence, it will then be necessary to consult a doctor.
Take hearing breaks
In any case, it is important to preserve your hearing capital, because once destroyed, our sensory cells, present in the number of 15,000 in the ear, do not grow back. Their successive disappearances slowly lead to deafness … It is therefore essential to protect yourself during concerts and to regularly perform hearing “pauses”.
To protect themselves, earplugs with acoustic filter are ideal. Be careful, they must be removed only when calm so as not to suddenly expose your ears to a high volume. Then, breaks must be done every 2 hours and for 30 minutes, or 10 minutes every 45 minutes, outside or in a quiet area of the event. And of course, we do not stick to the speakers!
