In the United States, it is a much more serious ordeal that Britanny Williams is going through. The day after a mud run, she lost her sight in her left eye.
“My eye started to hurt, as if there was mud or garbage,” recalls Britanny Williams at the microphone of CBS DFW. When I opened my eye, everything was white. The whole room was white. »The day before, this American ran her first mud run. It consists of an obstacle course, with different obstacles. Part of the race is done in the mud.
Bacterial infection
Many of the participants end up covered in slush from head to toe. For Brittany Williams, the story turns to drama: a debris cuts the surface of her eye and a bacteria, E. coli or staph, begins to attack the cornea. Necrotizing fasciitis develops. “She completely melted my eye”, sums up the young woman. The organ, originally colored black, has turned light blue. Her eyelid remains half-closed.

Britanny Williams is not covered by private health insurance. His week in the hospital leaves him with a hefty bill of 100,000 dollars (89,000 euros). “We do not imagine that by going to the doctor, we will end up paying 3,000 dollars for eye drops,” admits the American. Despite these problems, the young woman remains optimistic: she hopes to save her eye thanks to a surgical operation. To be able to pay her, she launched a crowdfunding campaign on the platform GoFundMe.
