The Movember Foundation gave the start of its prostate cancer awareness campaign. It’s time for men to grow their mustaches!
The “Mo Bros” proudly wear a mustache against prostate cancer
In November, the mustache is required. Like every year since 2003, the Movember Foundation is launching its now traditional prostate cancer screening operation, by inviting men to be tested and to bear witness to it publicly by wearing a mustache.
The operation officially started on 1er November, “Shave down” day. On this day, all “Mo Bros”, in other words men committed to the cause of the fight against prostate cancer, are invited to stop shaving their mustaches, and this during the 30 days that separate them from the end of November.
11 Canadians die of prostate cancer every day
The Movember Foundation will also launch, throughout the month, a vast campaign to appeal for donations that will be used to finance the many campaigns to raise awareness of this male cancer. Today, the founders are proud to have succeeded in financing more than 1,200 projects all over the world. and set a target of reducing the number of premature deaths among men by 25% by 2030.
Prostate cancer, which will strike one in seven men in their lifetime, is now the third deadliest cancer in Canada. In 2017, the Canadian Cancer Society estimated that 21,300 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer and 4,100 men died from it. On average, every day, 11 Canadians will die of prostate cancer.
