After Pink October, up to Movember ! November is the time to grow a mustache. Since 2003, the Movember Foundationmobilizes for the health of men and in particular against testicular cancer, of the prostate, the mental health problems and lack of physical activity. Throughout the month of November, participants let their mustaches grow to raise questions from their loved ones: an opportunity to discuss the subject of male diseases and raise funds to fight them.
A challenge also for women
This year, women are also encouraged to participate in their own way: the foundation is launching the MOVE challenge which consists in practicing physical activity every day, even light: “30 MOVEs in 30 days. No MOVE is too intensive or too light“explains the foundation.
Mobilize young men
This movement has only existed in France since 2012 and yet, last year, more than 27,000 French people registered for the event, raising 520,000 euros. By focusing on dissemination via social networks and using an offbeat and modern tone, Movember is targeting young men. And for good reason: testicular cancer, the main male disease targeted by this event, is the most common cancer in men aged between 15 and 35. What’s more, “the rate of men being diagnosed with testicular cancer has doubled in the last 50 years“ recalls the foundation.
Registration for Movember, alone or as a team, is free and open. on the website of the Movember Foundation.
