Bisphenol A, a chemical that is suspected of being an endocrine disruptor, can endanger your unborn baby. Researchers at Stanford University in California found that pregnant women with a high dose of bisphenol A (BPA) in their blood increased their risk of miscarriage by 80%.
Bisphenol A is accused of disrupting metabolism and promoting overweight, cardiovascular disease and infertility.
In this American study, scientists measured the level of BPA in various everyday plastic products potentially handled by pregnant women: sunglasses, plastic bottles, CD packaging, etc.
This toxic presence prompted Dr Ruth Lathie to warn pregnant women: “Until further studies are done, women who have suffered an unexplained miscarriage should avoid exposure to BPA in order to prevent this. potential risk factor “.
Avoid plastic food packaging
Not easy to avoid contact with packaging containing BPAbut certain good gestures can limit the risks: “Avoid any plastic container which is used to cook or heat food, since the chemicals are at their highest level when they are subjected to high temperature”, advises Dr. Lathie who has carried out the study for the Miscarriage association.
It is estimated that around 15% of women have a miscarriage each year in France.
In France, a law has bans Bisphenol A in food containers intended for children under 3 years old. The restriction is to extend to all food packaging from January 1, 2015.
