The new Mercedes Citan is now available in France from € 25,212 including tax in petrol or € 26,472 including tax in diesel. The utility, which uses the platform and mechanics of the Renault Kangoo Van, is differentiated by some equipment and will soon be offered in electric.
Mercedes launches the new Citan in France. The technical “cousin” of the latest generation Renault Kangoo Van, the utility shares its architecture and its engines with the French van. However, the less powerful Renault units (dCi 75 and TCe 100) are dispensed with, only to be offered with two Diesel engines of 95 hp and 116 hp, and a petrol engine of 131 hp. The Citan is also not entitled to the right rear door “Open Sesame” proposed for the Kangoo, the opening of which is not hindered by a central pillar.
On the other hand, it benefits from specific equipment such as the Mercedes MBUX infotainment system, with a basic screen of 7 inches against 8 for the Easy Link of the Kangoo Van. The Mercedes Citan starts at € 21,010 excl.tax for petrol and € 22,060 excl.tax for diesel.
This is respectively 490 € less and 360 € more than the Kangoo Van with an equivalent engine. The French utility remains cheaper at the entry level (20,700 € HT) thanks to its more modest mechanics.
A limited entry-level MBUX
Mercedes offers three finishes to choose from for the Citan. The basic offer is called First and includes among others:
- speed regulator ;
- automatic lights and wipers;
- LED daytime running lights;
- 7-inch central touch screen;
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity;
- DAB digital radio;
- fatigue detector.
Finishes and options
You have to opt for the intermediate Citan Pro model, invoiced for an additional € 2,000 excluding VAT, to benefit from manual air conditioning yet automatically boarded the Kangoo Van. This configuration also includes:
- LED spotlights;
- fog lights ;
- reversing radar.
The top-of-the-range Select version adds in particular the voice assistant, the navigation system, the reversing camera and the parking aid. By digging into the options catalog, you can benefit from a left rear sliding door like the right, lane change assistance or blind spot monitoring.

The Citan range will soon be completed by the electric version eCitan, as well as by long wheelbase variants including the Mixto, offering two rows of seats. The Citan Tourer “tourism” model will not be marketed in France; instead we will be entitled to the Mercedes Class T and EQT.
