All the interns consider that the reform of the third cycle is incomplete. The InterSyndicat des Internes (ISNI) filed a strike notice from April 18, 2017 in hospitals.
The medical interns are so angry that they have just given a strike notice from April 18, 2017. And their words to the ministers of Health and Higher Education and Research are harsh. Backbone of the hospital, these future practitioners say they are “at the end of the line” while they have been negotiating for months the reform of the third cycle of their medical studies.
This course is more commonly called “the internship”, a period of several years during which the student is trained during internships in medicine. Developments are therefore expected, but the rifles write that they have still not succeeded in making themselves heard with their line ministries.
The next decisive weeks
In a press release, the’InterSyndicat National des Internes (ISNI) even considers that the reform of the third cycle to be applied in November 2017 is incomplete. “The demands of young doctors are not taken into account,” said the leading union in the profession among young people.
This could pass for a point of detail, but the paroxysm of their anger lies in phase 3 of their course, the so-called consolidation. It is supposed to accompany them towards their post-internship in a progressive way, but “looks more and more like a year of disguised and compulsory Assistantship”, denounces the organization.
The direct consequence is, according to her, “a reduction of one year of training for all the diplomas of specialized studies (DES). No text to date guarantees us supervised autonomy. No regulatory text defines the responsibility that will fall on the phase 3 student ”, continues ISNI.
A salary increase requested
More precisely, interns in France ask for satisfactory working conditions for this phase. That is to say the absence of full exercise but a supervised autonomy. Or the taking into account of a phase 3 year to obtain the title of former Hospital Assistant.
Finally, they ask for a salary increase based on the work done. ISNI concludes: “these guarantees being the only way to protect the quality of care, the interns reserve the right to request a postponement of the reform for one year if they are not obtained following the strike movement”.
