The sale of corrective lenses online will be the subject analyzed by senators from September 10. While in France, drugs are available online since July 12, an amendment concerning the marketing of lentils has been added by the Senate Economic Affairs Committee to the bill on consumption.
In the amendment in question, presented by the rapporteur Alain Fauconnier, the senators propose that “the issuance of corrective lenses is subject to the existence of a valid medical prescription”, reads the document. In the case of lenses, the prescription would therefore no longer be compulsory. Senators believe that a medical prescription would represent an additional cost for patients. This deletion is not to the taste of the National Union of Ophthalmologists of France, nor the Ministry of Health. The debate therefore promises to be difficult.
The senators of the Committee on Economic Affairs also propose to remove the obligation, for the director or manager of an online sales platform, to hold an optician-eyewear diploma. On the other hand, the team must have an optician among its members. Among other things, discussions will also focus on a change from three to five years in the period during which opticians can adapt a prescription for corrective lenses, in order to respond to the shortage of ophthalmologists. The program for the return to the Senate promises to be busy.
