Triggered on April 23 to find little Berenyss, the Kidnapping Alert plan has been activated 14 times since its creation. With 100% efficiency.
A red banner or a radio alert, every quarter of an hour, with the report of a missing child. The “Kidnapping Alert” plan was triggered on April 23 after the kidnapping of 7-year-old Berenyss. The device was thus activated for the 14th times since its inception, in 2006.
It only took eight hours for the little Berenyss to be released, 100 km from her home. Kidnapped on April 23, the girl was actively wanted. Shortly after his kidnapping, the “Kidnapping Alert” plan was triggered. It provides for the broadcasting of an alert on 50 different channels, from radio and TV stations to station and motorway signs, including social networks and websites.
Adopted in 2006, the “Kidnapping Alert” plan was triggered 14 times. The objective is to quickly and widely mobilize the population. Indeed, finding a child within 24 hours of being kidnapped is crucial. “A study carried out in the United States in 1993 found that out of 621 child abductions that ended in homicide, 44% of children were killed within the first hour, 74% within three hours and 91% in the first hour. 24 hours following the kidnapping ”, specifies the Ministry of Justice on its dedicated website.
For the moment, the figures confirm these estimates: the device has been 100% effective. No doubt thanks to its precise requirements. The kidnapping must be proven and the physical integrity or life of the victim threatened. Only minors can benefit from the device, on condition that the elements make it possible to locate the child or the suspect and that the parents have given their consent.
