On September 7, 2001, Professor Jacques Marescaux achieved a world first, “The Lindbergh Operation”, a robotic and remote surgical intervention consisting in carrying out from New York the ablation of the gallbladder of a patient hospitalized in Strasbourg. Since then he has created the Ircad Institute in Strasbourg, specializing in research on non-invasive surgical techniques.
