In medical language, we speak of “functional colopathy”: irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) affects approximately 3 million people in France. Women are, on average, twice as affected as men: the disease generally occurs around 30-40 years old.

Researchers at the Kathilieke Unisersiteit Leuven (in Belgium) may have pinpointed the exact origin of irritable bowel syndrome: the symptoms are caused by an inappropriate immune response.
