Although the mouth cap is already a thing of the past in some countries, we still have to deal with it. And so this feature of iOS 15.4 with an improvement for wearers of a mouth cap is more than welcome.
You probably recognize it. You are in the supermarket and grab your smartphone. For example, to see an incoming notification, or to access your digital shopping list. But your iPhone doesn’t recognize you. Because you wear a mouth cap of course. Apple makes short shrift with this face mask annoyance in iOS 15.4, as can be concluded from the beta.

iOS 15.3 has only just been released, or version 15.4 contains another nice development. Apple has made improvements in the software so that FaceID can also recognize your face if you wear a face mask. Better late than never shall we say. The pandemic has been going on for almost two years, but only now has Apple figured out how FaceID can better deal with a face-covering mouth cap.
Apple says that FaceID will look more closely at the contours of your eyes to recognize you. There is a good chance that the combination of a mouth cap, iOS 15.4 and sunglasses will not yet work. But maybe Apple will come up with something on that as well. (through Macrumors)
