Contrary to popular belief, infertility does not always come from the woman. This is indeed responsible only in 40% of cases. Men are the cause of the infertility of a couple in the same proportion. The remaining 20% is due to common problems or anomalies. For men, the decline in fertility is due in particular to a drop in the quality of sperm caused by our exposure to pesticides, heavy metals …
The ISCI method
It is indicated in the event of male infertility by alteration of the sperm, identified by the spermogram (rare spermatozoa, not sufficiently mobile or atypical); failure of “classic” IVF. It is a variant of IVF in which fertilization is directed. The technique consists of depositing a spermatozoon within the ovum using micro-instruments and under the control of a microscope.
The results: it represents 38% of IVF performed each year in France. And 3,000 children are conceived this way every year. There are about 20% success per attempt.
Insemination with donor sperm
It is an artificial insemination with the sperm of an anonymous donor. It is indicated when the man has no sperm in his genital tract or when he suffers from a genetic abnormality that he risks transmitting to his child. For safety reasons, insemination is never done with fresh sperm, but with frozen sperm which has undergone two successive checks 6 months apart (serologies looking for diseases such as hepatitis B, C, AIDS, syphilis …) Just like insemination with the partner’s sperm, it is generally preceded by a phase of ovarian stimulation in women. It gives good results: 50% pregnancy after 6 attempts on average.
