From January 10, it is possible to obtain a work stoppage without medical advice and without a waiting day, in the event of symptoms of Covid-19 or if you are in contact.
- Sick leave will be issued by Health Insurance from a simple email in the event of symptoms or if you are in contact
- Contamination must be confirmed by a test
- A negative test will result in return to work
A new weapon to fight against Covid-19: the Prime Minister has announced the relaxation of the conditions for access to work stoppage. “As soon as you have symptoms or are a contact case, all you have to do is register on the health insurance website to obtain an immediate, compensated work stoppage without a waiting day.“, announced Jean Castex, Thursday, January 7. On his site, Health Insurance specifies this announcement: it concerns people who cannot telework, and who must be off work, because of their exposure to the virus. “Policyholders of all health insurance schemes (employees, self-employed, unemployed, farmers, etc.) are affected by this system., she explains. For the Prime Minister, it aims to “better guarantee the effectiveness of the isolation of positive people and their contact cases“.
An absence of deficiency
Normally, if a doctor prescribes you to stop working, your daily allowances are paid after a waiting period of three days. This new measure makes it possible to eliminate the deficiency: as soon as the declaration is registered with the Health Insurance, the daily allowances are paid. They allow you to receive 99% of your net salary, taking into account the employer supplement.

The test remains mandatory
If you have a symptom or you are a case-contact, you must connect to the Health Insurance website to declare your situation. You then have two days to get tested, either with an antigen test or a PCR test. The validation of the work stoppage is conditional on the result of the test, but even if it is negative, daily allowances will be paid to cover the period from the declaration to the result of the screening. In the absence of Covid-19 contamination, the work stoppage ends and you can resume your professional activity.
What happens if the test is positive?
Health insurance accepts a period of 4 days between the declaration and obtaining the test results. If at this end, you are positive for Covid-19, an adviser must contact you to extend the work stoppage for seven days. From January 20, a home visit by a nurse will be offered to those concerned. In any case, Health Insurance undertakes to regularly call positive people during this week of cessation, “between two and three times” specified the Prime Minister.
