Hornets, wasps and bees are the real scourges of the holidays: it is impossible to have a quiet lunch on the terrace without seeing them disembark and hover around our plates!
Warning: in addition to being effective troublemakers, wasps can also be dangerous to health. Thus, this Monday, July 11, 2022, in Sarthe (72), a 27-year-old young man died following a wasp sting. And this Sunday, July 17, 2022, still in Sarthe, the same insect caused the death of a mother in her forties.
I have been stung by a Wasp (bee, wasp, hornet), should I be worried? In the event of a bee, hornet or wasp sting, the danger is anaphylaxis: this is a sudden and often fatal allergic reaction (by cardiac arrest) if it is not treated sufficiently. early. Anaphylactic shock occurs quickly, within minutes of being bitten.
Symptoms of anaphylaxis appear within minutes
The symptoms to recognize, in children as in adults, are:
- Respiratory distress: the patient has trouble breathing,
- Skin signs: pimples, itching, red patches… which suddenly appear on the skin and spread,
- General malaise: headaches, dizziness, abdominal pain…
It is then essential to call the SAMU (15 or 112 on the telephone). Ditto if the patient was stung inside the mouth, even in the absence of signs of aggravation.
Interviewed by our colleagues from West FranceDr. Florence Deciron-Debieuvre, head of Samu 72, and Dr. Lionel Imsaad, emergency physician, warn us particularly against cans of soda: “the Wasp, attracted by the sugar, slips under the inside edge of the can and comes out when it is brought to the mouth, stinging the edge of the tongue, the back of the throat or the inside of the play. Prefer glass!“
