To protect yourself from both the coronavirus and the heat wave, the actions to be taken are sometimes contradictory. Public Health France gives the procedure to follow in these times of high heat.
“Given current knowledge, projections indicate that increases in temperature and humidity during the summer season alone will not control the transmission of the coronavirus, without other control measures”, warns Public Health France. In a note, the health agency explains how to protect yourself from Covid-19 and the heat wave currently raging in France.
open windows
To ensure indoor air quality and cool a room, it is essential to ventilate the living rooms several times a day, by opening the doors and windows to the outside.
Properly equip air conditioners
To lower the viral load of the room, air conditioners must be equipped with high-performance filters and properly maintained. Air inlets and outlets must not be obstructed.
Do not use a fan in the presence of several people
By creating a significant air movement, the fan will project the respiratory droplets emitted by the people present in the room and make the safety distances inoperative. On the other hand, a fan used by only one person in a room is not a problem.
Use a fogger in large spaces
Outdoors and in large spaces, there will be a dilution of respiratory droplets emitted by people talking, coughing and sneezing. The risk of contamination by SARS-CoV-2 through a fogger is therefore unlikely.
However, in its opinion of May 20, 2020, the HCSP recommends “the prohibition of type 3 collective misting systems in upward flow as well as the respect of strict instructions for misting systems with downward flow supplied with water intended for human consumption.”
