In France, menopause affects more than 11 million women and each year, 400,000 are newly confronted with it. Mood swings, weight gain, decreased libido, vaginal dryness, insomnia… the drop in hormones can trigger very different symptoms from woman to woman. Some have none, others have many.
Formerly presented as a panacea, hormonal treatment of menopause (THM) has been at the heart of a vast controversy for twenty years, accused of increasing the risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease. Doctors specializing in menopause are trying to rehabilitate this treatment, which remains the most effective in combating hot flashes. However, today, many women choose to go through menopause without treatment. Yoga, acupuncture, hypnosis or herbal medicine…. More and more scientific studies demonstrate the beneficial virtues of these alternative techniques on certain symptoms.
How do women go through this essential stage of their lives? In which cases should hormonal treatments be prescribed? Are they risk free? And what are the most effective natural methods for experiencing menopause well? So many questions that the guests of the next show will try to answer. Menopause: with or without treatment?
Menopause is characterized by a drop in sex hormones what are estrogen and progesterone. Daily inconveniences can be followed by more serious problems such as osteoporosis or increased cardiovascular risk. Alternative medicines and food supplements can help deal with it. Magnesium is for example useful for strengthening the bones, vitamins help to regain energy… But also herbal medicine, homeopathy and aromatherapy can help.
