I suffer from perspiration, especially on my face. There are times when it drips off and I can’t get my hair dry. Is there anything that can be done about it?
Joris Bartstra, journalist with a medical degree.
There are no medicines for excessive sweating. However, some drugs have the side effect of reducing sweating. You can use that. But they do have many side effects, such as dry mouth, dry eyes, blurred vision, getting too hot, abdominal discomfort and problems with urination. This applies to oxybutynin (against an overactive bladder) and glycopyrronium (against salivation). An alternative is the propranolol (blocks stress hormones). But that too has side effects, such as a slow heart rate and cold hands. They seem to me to be quite taxing resources to use continuously. Excessive sweating in the hands and armpits is also treated with ointments and lotions with aluminum compounds, botox, and the elimination of the sweat glands.
